Jesus said: "I am the
Good Shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me." (John 10:14) Do
you know the voice of your true Shepherd? Jesus said: "I am the Good
Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep." (John 10:14-15) What
shepherd, what voice are you following? Could you be a sheep led
astray by a deceptive voice, a false shepherd? Does a modern day idol
have a grip on you?
Perhaps your version of Psalm 23 goes something like this:
Shopping you are my shepherd, I shall not stop looking
You make me drive to factory outlet malls,
You lead me inside every store where there is a clearance sale,
You empty my pocketbook.
You guide me in paths of fads and fashions for vanity's sake,
Even though I often shop on-line or by catalog
I will miss no end of season sale for greed is with me;
My credit cards; they comfort me.
You prepare a bargain table before me
In the presence of my local Wal-Mart,
You anoint my eyes with lust,
My shopping bag overflows.
Surely my feet hurt and creditors will follow me
All the days of my life
And I will dwell in that holiday sale at Dillards
Forever.
Let us be devoted to the Lord.
